Author: Frances Shiobara

Frances Shiobara is currently Assistant Professor at Kobe Shoin Women's University in Japan. Prior to this, she worked for Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan, for 17 years. She has lived in Japan for 25 years and is fluent in English and Japanese. She received her undergraduate degree in Economics from the University College of North Wales, and a Master of Education in TESOL from Temple University Japan. Professor Shiobara is currently enrolled in the University of Liverpool Doctor of Education programme. Her main areas of research are student motivation and independent learning. She is also actively involved in the Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT).
